History of BEMA

The Bath Enclosure Manufacturers Association was founded in 1992. Its members include manufacturers, suppliers and dealers of bath enclosures and bath enclosure components from the United States and Canada.

The only trade association of its kind, BEMA is dedicated to assisting consumers in the purchase, installation and maintenance of bath enclosure products and services. BEMA also works to support its members by raising consumer awareness of the advantages of bath enclosures as the high-quality choice for containing shower water in today’s bathrooms.

Bath enclosures are being viewed more and more as beneficial to homeowners' health as well as safety. Use of bath enclosures significantly reduces the risk of potentially life threatening mold formation because of water leakage and infiltration in the bathroom. Mounting medical recognition of the benefits of steam for respiratory health and beauty are also adding to increase use of bath enclosures.

Bath enclosures have come a long way in the last 20 years. They are no longer simply a glass partition to keep water off the bathroom floor. Instead, bath enclosures come in a variety of designs, colors and patterns to truly add to the aesthetics of the bathroom. Bath enclosures can even make the bathing area part of the larger room, increasing the bathroom’s perceived size as well as desirability.

To showcase the innovative designs incorporated in today's shower enclosures, BEMA sponsors the Bath Enclosure Design Awards Competition each year. Now in its sixth year, the Design Awards recognize and reward exceptional bathroom design that utilizes a shower or tub enclosure in place of a shower curtain to improve the architectural design of the room and to enhance the homeowner’s overall bathing experience.
