Bielawski acknowledged, The customer desired the look of frameless but their budget did not allow for it. The chosen unit was based on the minimal use of metal in the channel and hinges to achieve the clean frameless look with a totally frameless door. The unit was manufactured with 1/4 clear glass and aluminum with a brushed nickel finish Winner Glass 3/8 and Over City Glass & Mirror 100 N. Seventh Street Grand Haven, MI 49417 (616) 842-3740 Contact: Rose Arnold In the Glass 3/8 and Over category, Rose Arnold of City Glass & Mirror of Grand Haven, Michigan is this years winner. The architectural design, the grandiose scale and the breathtaking views all combine together to create this impressive Lake Michigan home. A magnificent lake house which also demands equally impressive shower enclosures, Arnold stated. To accommodate the owners desire to break up the rooms and prevent unwanted moisture flow, while not obstructing the natural forest and lake views, large size panels of ½ clear tempered glass were utilized as floor to ceiling dividers. Some of these dividers also doubled as the entrance to the bathing area as well as a separate shower compartment. Clips were used to maintain clean lines and expose glass edges, while joining the outer wall with the inner stall. Due to the large scale of the project, oversized CR Laurence Atlas commercial hinges and ladder pulls were used to prevent the hardware from being lost in the design. The glass was also coated with easy-to-clean glass protection, a must considering the amount of glass and exposing beams of sunlight. This particular unit is one of four unique shower enclosures included at the lake house." 2008-2009 Design Award Judges:
